Elisa Singer Biography
A native of Southern California, Elisa Singer, soprano, earned a Master of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she sang Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Also at CIM, she starred as Tonina in Salieri’s Prima la musica, poi le parole as well as the title role in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol. Most recently, Singer made her debut in New York as soprano soloist for the world premiere of Jorge Martin's Out of the Cradle, Endlessly Rocking with Cantori New York. Past performances in Cleveland include Donizetti’s Linda di Chamounix as Linda, Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges as Fire and Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann as Olympia. With Opera Cleveland, Singer performed with the chorus of Puccini's La Boheme. She also worked with Opera Cleveland On Tour for three years in the outreach program, performing An Aesop Odyssey as well as many other programs. During her undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Singer performed with the USC Opera, appearing in roles including Poppea in Handel’s Agrippina, First Spirit in Mozart’s Magic Flute, Brigitte Booth in Ward’s The Crucible, and understudy for Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola. She performed extensive scenes from Donizetti’s Don Pasquale as Norina, and from Delibes’ Lakmé as Lakmé. She also starred in Donizetti’s Rita with the Los Angeles Lyric Opera. Ms. Singer sang with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the internationally recognized USC Chamber choir at Disney Hall under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen. She recently received the Boris Goldovsky prize in opera at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She also received numerous awards and scholarships from the Young Musician Foundation, and won the solo vocal competition through the California Women’s Chorus. She has been a participant in the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Ms. Singer is a student of Dr. Mary Schiller.
In addition to performing, Ms. Singer teaches voice privately, recently working as a vocal instructor with the Solon Center for the Arts. She also taught at Stagecrafters Youth Theatre in Orange, Ohio and the Jewish Community Center of Orange County, California at the Musical Theater camp.
